GREEKFEST a great idea for Date Night

It's my favorite time of year again. That's right. The annual Greekfest at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church. This year marks the 26th annual festival and it is sure to live up to it's reputation of being one the the best food and cultural festivals in Wilmington again this year. Admission is only $3 for adults. Shuttles are available and it under a huge tent so the rain won't keep you away.

Music, Dancing, Church Tours and Shopping

If you are looking for a fun night out this is the weekend to do it. Learn how to Greek dance, listen to a live Greek band and shop for Greek jewelry, groceries, clothing and art. You can also get a tour of the church and check out our beautiful iconography. The festival also has several Greek shops set up to select the perfect memory from your festival visit.

Food

Even if you have never tried Greek food before you are going to love it. Trust me and I am not just saying that because I'm Greek. Whether you are looking for something quick like a GYRO (pronouced like Euro) or you are ready to try something a little more refined like the Pastitsio(like a Greek version of lasagna) or the roast leg of lamb you are not going to be disappointed. The food is authentic and full of flavor. If sweets are more your thing stop by the pastries tent. Here you can try the baklava, koulourakia, or the Kataifi (a delicious dessert which like baklava and looks a little like shredded wheat). There is even a special tent for Greek Donuts called Loukoumades which are covered in honey and dusted with powdered sugar and sesame seeds. Delicious!

The Taverna

This is where you will find me spending most of my time- however, I am selling not buying. Well, maybe tasting a little. Greek wine and beer as well as some America brews are served here. Mythos, which tastes a bit like Heineken is a crowd favorite. Apella is the house Greek wine and served in white, red and rose. There is also a Greek Favorite called Retsina which has been around for at least 2000 years and has a bit of a pine taste to it. Mavrodaphne is also a festival favorite which is a very sweet red. Come by and say hello. Try some new things and enjoy a cold one.
