Wilmington: A Coastal Cultural Hub

Wilmington is fast becoming a cultural arts hub on the coast. From our new concert venues which bring in national and internationally known groups, (Tony Bennett, Gypsy Kings, Willie Nelson, The Dobbie Brothers) to our local theater and stage productions, to our film studios and film festivals our historic town has a great deal to offer cultural enthusiasts.

Since 1985, more than 400 film, television and commercial projects have shot at the Wilmington, NC Screen Gems studios on the North Carolina coast. Recent films include “Iron Man 3” for Marvel and “The Conjuring” and “We’re the Millers” for New Line/Warner Bros. Recent television projects include “Good Behavior” for TNT, “Six” for the History Channel, “Under the Dome” for CBS, “Eastbound and Down” for HBO and “Sleepy Hollow” for Fox Television.

Just down the street from Wilmington International Airport lies the 50-acre, full-service studio lot offers 10 stages with 150,000 sq. ft. of column-free shooting space. Until this past year the studio also offered tours.

This November 8-12th, Wilmington will host the 23rd Annual Cucalorus Film Festival. The event is a non-competitive festival focused on supporting innovative artists and encouraging creative exchange. The festival is held each November in historic downtown Wilmington, North Carolina with screenings of more than 300 films from around the world.
